Als Chinas mächtiger Kaiser ein Dekret erlässt, dass aus jeder Familie je ein Mann in die kaiserliche Armee eingezogen wird, um das Land vor Eindringlingen aus dem Norden zu verteidigen, beschließt Mulan Hua, die Tochter und einziges Kind eines hoch dekorierten Soldaten, anstelle ihres kranken und geschwächten Vaters dem Einberufungsbefehl Folge zu leisten. Mulan gibt sich in Männerverkleidung als Jun Hua aus und muss sich den strengsten Prüfungen unterziehen.
